Featuring some of Memphis' best-known and most talented musicians, Elmo & the Shades will turn any event into a rollicking, classic, rhythm-and-blues PARTY!

Lead singer Elmo Lee Thomas, the big man with the big voice, will take you on a musical tour of the best blues, R&B, and funk favorites of the last 40 years. Elmo's renowned bandmates include bassist Freddie Mooney, drummer Lawrence Harper, horn greats Mickey Gregory and Tommy Lee Williams (both were in the house bands at Stax and Hi Records and appeared on numerous hits), and the legendary Larry Lee, who played on stage with Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and was Rev. Al Green's guitarist and band leader for many years. And when the event needs a little extra sizzle, Elmo calls on a former star of The Bouffants, Tamara Riggs, to add her sexy, soulful vocal wizardry.

With Elmo & the Shades, you'll get a group of entertainment professionals whose reputations and versatility are unmatched in Memphis. They can play soft jazz during dinner and then turn up the heat for all-night dancing to party classics. More than another tribute to Memphis music, this band CREATED Memphis music -- and it's one of the tightest, funkiest, and most crowd-pleasing groups you'll ever hear!

ABOUT THE BAND:

Elmo Lee Thomas - (vocals, guitar, harmonica):
From gritty blues to tender ballads to rocking R&B classics, Elmo can sing it all. After a decade of singing and playing throughout the Mid-South, Elmo has developed a large and devoted fan base -- and a reputation as a consummate musician and performer. Honored repeatedly by NARAS for his harmonica talents, Elmo also recently cut a record of original songs that will be released soon.

Mickey Gregory - (vocals, trumpet):
After backing such stars as Little Richard, Sam & Dave, and Jackie Wilson, Mickey teamed with Isaac Hayes and became band director for The Isaac Hayes Movement. He played on numerous Stax classics: that's his trumpet on "Dock of the Bay," "Knock on Wood," and many others.

Lawrence Harper - (vocals, drums):
Considered one of the best drummers in town, Lawrence has provided his funky beat and written songs for such stars as Ann Peebles, Al Green, Johnny Taylor, and Rufus Thomas. Also an expert recording engineer, Lawrence has produced numerous hits at Hi and Malaco studios.

Larry Lee - (vocals, guitar):
It's no exaggeration to say that Larry is a legend among Memphis musicians. After playing with Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, Larry became the guitarist and band leader for Rev. Al Green --a job that has taken him all over the world and onto countless TV shows. Confident, experienced, talented -- he's a musician's musician.

Freddie Mooney - (vocals, bass):
This veteran Los Angeles musician recently moved to Memphis and quickly found Elmo & the Shades. Freddie played on the national tour of the Hues Corporation ("Rock the Boat"), as well as with such stars as Billy Preston, Albert Collins, and Rick Springfield. He has also created songs for movies and TV and has an endorsement deal with Lakland guitars.

Tommy Lee Williams - (vocals, saxophone):
Renowned sax player at Stax and Hi Records, Tommy played sax on most of Otis Redding's hits, plus such great songs as "Soul Man," "Funky Chicken," "Knock on Wood," and many more. A member of The Isaac Hayes Movement for years, he brings unmatched experience and soul to the band.

And for the big events, when you need just a little more spice, Elmo calls on:

Tamara Riggs - (vocals):
One of the stars of The Bouffants for five years, Tamara adds her sexy, soulful, powerful voice whenever the band needs a woman's touch. An award-winning actress (The Taffetas, South Pacific, Chicago), she knows how to connect with a crowd. Locally, she has sung with Gary Johns, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Ruby Wilson, The Venus Mission, and many others. She also performs as Trixie: Mistress of Karaoke at the Grand Casino and elsewhere.
